Mi-Case has developed the most sophisticated sentence calculation engine in the industry. Highly configurable, rules based, easy to use, and a “first-of-its-kind” sentencing tool, the Mi-Case Sentence Calculator has been developed by software engineers and analysts with extensive knowledge not only of the nuances of the laws of each State, but also the complex algorithms involved in accurately calculating inmates’ sentences, jail time credits and release dates. In addition, the Sentence Calculation team is experienced in designing and managing administrative computing systems. The result: a software tool that will serve the Corrections justice system and provide an invaluable tool for corrections personnel, by simplifying and expediting access to critical, consistently reliable sentencing information.
Given that Security Threat Groups (STG's) are one of the biggest risks to operational security, the Mi-Case STG module is designed around the tracking of potential and suspected gang members. Through a variety of tracking queues and validation processes, security staff can ensure the thorough tracking of gang related activities, allowing other staff to utilize this information for housing and programming decisions. Facility Matching.
Determining where an offender should reside can be one of the most staff intensive decisions due to the variety of factors that drive these decisions. The Mi-Case Offender Management solution provides a rule-based facility matching function that removes subjectivity from decisions whilst also empowering staff by recommending the most suitable locations for an offender. This is performed by building configurable rules around many key inmate data elements, such as:
• Custody and Risk Scores
• Medical and Mental Health needs
• Programming and treatment needs
• Offense types• Sentence Length
Understanding that some agencies move inmates frequently, the Mi-Case Offender Management solution has a comprehensive Transfer module that allows the planning and coordination of inmates between facilities. This process can be utilized on an inmate by inmate basis, or against a batch of inmates under special circumstances such as a mass disturbance. Staff can plan routes that the inmate will take to reach their destination, which allows facility personnel to arrange suitable transport for the inmates, whilst also accounting for the various special needs that inmates may have. Movement Holds/Restrictions.
Often there are times when an inmate must remain in their present location, whether that is for operational security, or to enable the inmate to complete a treatment class. The Movement Holds/Restrictions module allows staff to place temporary or permanent holds on the inmate to prevent other staff from planning movement of the inmate. These holds can either be manually activated or activated by the system at specific trigger points.
To ensure that inmates who should not be located near each other are kept separate, the Do Not House With (DNHW) module in the Mi-Case Offender Management solution provides the ability to accurately track the inmate relationships and reasons why they should be kept separate. This is visible to other areas of the application to ensure that staff are aware of any issues during Transportation or Program placement.
Much in line with the difficulty facing agencies when transporting inmates - locating a suitable cell for an inmate is an equally difficult security decision. The Mi-Case Offender Management solution has a rule-based cell identification system which allows staff to locate a list of potentially suitable cells for an inmate based on availability and business rules.
As one of the most critical security aspects of a facility, Inmate Count is handled within the Mi-Case Offender Management solution. It allows staff to perform real-time Count of inmates, including the ability to place inmates on outcounts, whilst creating a historical view of every count performed that can viewed through the systems interface.
The Detention module allows the placement of inmates in Detention status, denoting the reason why and the staff involved in the decision making. A dashboard tracks all inmates in the entire agency who are in detention status, the reasons why, and how long they have remained in that status.
The Programs module provides a consistent approach to defining and tracking the various types of Programs and Work that inmates can be enrolled in. It allows the administrative functions to define the locations, requirements and dates/times that classes will operate and tracking the inmates through to completion on any given program. Key features include:
• Administrative functions to create/modify Programs
• Categorization of Programs (Work, Treatment, Education)
• Assignment of Inmates

• Calculating inmate pay
• Managing evaluations
The Mi-Case Offender Management solution contains an Assessments area for each inmate which displays the assessments the inmate has taken in relation to their educational and treatment needs.
The 'Events' module within the Mi-Case Offender Management solution allows staff to track any level of incident that occurs within the agency, and allowing the ability to associate multiple inmates, staff members or other individuals (visitors, volunteers etc.) with that event. Various other modules and events can be triggered from the event, creating a full traceable history of the origin of subsequent activities.
Linking directly from the Events module, the Discipline module allows the recording of the specifics around a violation committed by an inmate, tracking the process through various stages of reviews and hearings until a verdict is given. This often includes sanctions, of which they interact directly with other sub-modules in the Mi-Case Offender Management solution. Examples of such sanctions include Loss of Earned Release/Good Time Credits or Loss of Visitation Privileges.
The Scheduling module closely integrates with the Programs module to ensure that inmates schedules are accurately displayed with the inmates complete list of activities. Additional appointments such as Board/ICE Hearings, Court or Medical appointments can be added to the inmates’ schedule. The module also indicates when there are scheduling conflicts to allow staff to act.
The Visitation module provides users with the ability to document registered visitors for inmates, including any relationships that visitors may have with other inmates. The module allows visitation staff to approve and deny visitors, whilst also tracking the physical visits that inmates receive by way of an interactive real-time queue which ensures that visits do not exceed the specified length.
The Mi-Case Offender Management solution contains a Detainers module which allows staff to log requests from other agencies that wish to gain custody of an offender upon release.
The Grievance module facilitates the tracking of inmate grievance requests and the various levels of review and approval that follow such a request.
The Religious Services module tracks both the inmates current and prior religious affiliations, as well as the allowable and approved religious property items that the inmate may have in their possession.
